I am not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination, at least not in any meaningful sense, but that sure isn’t going to stop me from doing what I do, nor should it limit anyone else. Capturing beauty doesn’t require a degree!
But the more lasting distinction that I place on it can be traced back to a Tom Robbins’ book (yes, him again), titled, “Skinny Legs and All”. There, Pricilla Charles, the books protagonist, is a budding young painter who’s singular ambition was to take the New York art scene by storm, to be a ‘famous and respected’ artist. But after her dream had crashed to dust, she quickly recalibrated from that loss and issued this profound compromise. She simply stated that “beauty is just going to be my everyday thing“. And with that, I had a mantra to claim as my own.
