Mindfulness

Studying the mind has become a fascinating subject for me over the past several years, whether it’s consciousness, the question of our Free-Will, the illusion of ‘self’ and all the other neurological categories that fall into the ‘Philosophy of Mind’ genre. I find it all fascinating, if not occasionally disorienting to discover how our minds actually function and how difficult it can be to gain any level of control over it.

I’ll attempt to find more examples to include here, clips that have resonated with me and helped broaden my outlook in a variety of way.

Here is the brilliant David Foster Wallace giving his famous Kenyon College commencement speech, put to the graphic talents of the artist “After Skool”.

Whether this should be filed under Science or Mindfulness is a good question, since it can fit comfortably within both. Anil Seth is one of the worlds leading Neuroscientist and this video shows the mysteries being unraveled at the frontiers of the mind.

A surprisingly lucid conversation with one of the more thoughtful comedians of my generation.

This is an amazingly articulate description of Sam Harris’ fairly recent mushroom trip, where he took 5 grams of psilocybin. His natural ability to articulate complex ideas is well known, but his descriptions here are mind-blowing…..and tempting!

Another “After Skool” production, this time put to a Sam Harris discussion on the utter uniqueness and mystery of consciousness.
